Strong candidates for an Associate role at a hedge fund demonstrate strong financial modeling skills, an analytical mindset, have conviction in their own ideas, and are articulate. Hedge fund Associates are early-career investment professionals who provide foundational support to public equity investing teams. H.W Anderson sources talent from investment banks, sell-side research firms, and from junior buy-side roles.

- Investment Banks: H.W Anderson headhunts Hedge Fund Associate talent for hedge funds from well regarded investment banks. While at an investment bank, candidates learn financial modeling, work on deal pitches, and gain exposure to mergers & acquisitions. Associates with an investment banking background are valuable to equity funds because of their fundamental financial skills.
- Sell-side Research Firms: At sell-side research firms, Associates gain valuable industry research experience. Candidates from research firms are valuable as associates at hedge funds because of their experience following and reporting on companies within a sector or subsector. Their granular knowledge of an industry is demonstrated through research reports and investment recommendations.
- Private Equity Firms: H.W Anderson recruits Associates for hedge funds from private equity firms. Candidates from private equity firms are valuable because they often have investment banking experience. In addition, candidates from private equity are experienced in monitoring a portfolio, fundraising, and reporting investment recommendations.

HEDGE FUNDS
We work with a select group of elite funds, including:
- Multi Managers
- Fundamental long/short and market-neutral equity investment strategies, from entry-level Associate roles, through to risk-taking seats as Analysts and Portfolio Managers.
- Single Managers
- Focus on targeted sectors and utilize a fundamental long/short strategy. We support their teams from their most junior Analysts through to Sub-sector Heads.
- Credit Funds
- Across the full spectrum of credit investing, from distressed and special situations, to performing and structured credit.
- Event-Driven Funds
- Large multi-strategy funds that have dedicated event-driven portfolios, as well as single-manager platforms which operate broader event-driven equity, credit and merger arbitrage strategies.
